Do any one feels that Boxing should be regarded as a martial art?
In my opinion, boxing can be regarded as a martial art in sports level, just like the judo, sanshou (sanda) etc. But it cant be regarded as a well martial arts thing since it lacks many many area which a common martial arts will have, one example is to kill, and to heal… What do you think? PleaseĀ post your opinions as comment.
I think that boxer’s have excellent fitness and could definitely kill. Could the heal? No! But are they disciplined in training yes. Perhaps it should be considered a fighting art, but not martial art.
You put up a very good point, Butch. I too support that boxing can said as a fighting art, not a martial art.
(%) peace …
Well it depends… You are both right that for the most part boxing is a “fighting” art…. however, saying that there is no “healing” in boxing is not entirely true… while you are correct in saying that your average boxer may not know much about healing and etc… those who practice on a more serious level have a very good understanding of how the body works and those who have taken things even further and started helping others train and prepare for fights DO have to know how to heal. A fighter must not only be in top condition before a fight but you have to know how to treat injuries etc… during the fight as well (especially if you’re in someone’s corner). So while its philosophy on healing may not be as profound as those of other martial arts, to say that it is without this aspect would be unjust
